Eric Omondi bails out boda boda rider who broke down over Ksh.25K court fine

Eric Omondi, a well-known Kenyan comedian, has come to the rescue of a boda boda rider, Fredrick Munene, who was arrested for allegedly trespassing in an unregistered area. Following his arrest, Munene was taken to court and fined Ksh. 25,000 or alternatively, six months in jail.
A video showing Munene breaking down in court went viral and prompted Omondi to post it on his Instagram account. In the post, he expressed his displeasure, saying “This guy makes 700bob a day, where do you expect him to get the 25k? He has a wife and children, and then you take him to jail for 6months. Our time is coming, and we are going to change this country.”
On Wednesday, Omondi revealed that he visited Industrial Area Remand Prison and secured Munene’s release. He also disclosed that in partnership with a tours and travel company, they took Munene shopping to help him get through these challenging times.
“Wanyonge ndo tunaumia, how do you fine a boda boda guy 25k!!!? Leo tumerelease Fredrick from Industrial Area prison na tukamfanyia shopping…very soon a lot will change…our time is coming,” he noted.
Munene’s case sparked outrage among Kenyans, with many calling for justice for the boda boda rider. Omondi’s intervention has been praised by many as an act of kindness and a demonstration of compassion for those in need.
