TikTok CEO explains why his 2 kids can’t use the app

Shou Zi Chew, the CEO of TikTok, has revealed that his own children are not allowed to use the app despite his contribution to its creation. The Singaporean entrepreneur made this disclosure during an interview, stating that his eight and six-year-old children were too young to use the platform. He highlighted the fact that TikTok imposes restrictions for users below the age of 13 in adherence to legal requirements. To ensure more safety and control for parents, Chew suggested the use of the “Family Pairing” feature on the app, which was launched in 2020. This feature enables adults to customize safety parameters and access controls for their children’s accounts. Chew also emphasized the variation in age restrictions when signing up for the app, noting that it was tighter in America compared to other countries. While TikTok’s minimum age requirement is 13, it does not have any age verification tools during the registration process. TikTok’s success is largely attributed to its user-friendly interface and algorithm that learns user preferences to curate relevant content.
